A documentary portrait of German composer/conductor Hans Pfitzner
(1869 – 1949), sketching the significance of the composer and his work in connection with the political and musical upheavals of his time, using interviews with musicians, musicologists as well as with his stepdaughter, making use of extensive archive material and fragments of Pfitzner’s music.
Featuring (a.o.) the Vienna State Opera, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Bruno Walter, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Münchner Philharmoniker, Robert Holl and the Altenberg Trio.
